Good to know

In Germany, around 28% of adults develop a mental disorder, such as depression or anxiety disorders, within a year. These illnesses can significantly affect an individual's well-being and are comparable to physical illnesses. For example, moderate depression can be equated with severe asthma or relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. Mental illnesses are among the most common causes of illness in Germany, alongside respiratory diseases and musculoskeletal disorders (Statista, 2024).

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), "mental health is a state of well-being in which the individual is aware of his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and can contribute to the community." This definition underlines the importance of mental health not only for individual well-being, but also for promoting a productive and supportive working environment.

The effects of mental illness

The consequences of mental illness can be very far-reaching and usually go beyond the person affected. A large part of their environment, and therefore also the company, can feel the consequences. In addition to physical and emotional effects on the person affected, mental health problems often also have an impact on the working environment, such as reduced productivity and/or increased absenteeism. It is crucial that companies prioritize the mental health of their employees and create a respectful and supportive environment.

How can we help?

At empiriecom, we recognize the importance of mental health and are actively committed to promoting wellbeing within our organization. To achieve this, we have two Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) and our Systemic Consultants Marcel and Steve. For employees who show signs of mental health issues, early intervention is crucial and that's why we offer support to ease the path to professional help. Our trained first responders are trained to recognize acute situations and provide the necessary support when a mental health problem begins, worsens or occurs in a crisis - but they do not diagnose or replace professional help.

Our aim is to reduce stigma, create transparency and build knowledge about mental health within empiriecom. To do this, we regularly share information through various channels, including our Teams channel, and train our Scrum Masters so that they are able to effectively support their colleagues and raise awareness.

At empiriecom, we believe that mental health is an essential part of a thriving workplace. By fostering a supportive and understanding environment, we can help our employees overcome mental health challenges and contribute positively to our community, creating a healthier and more productive workplace for all.
